Angannette Arnold - Climber With The Never the Norm Mantra

Throughout my life I have been a lover of the outdoors and have been known as somewhat of a "free spirit." My parents claim that my love of the outdoors stems from the fact that my first pair of baby shoes were actually tiny hiking boots that were purchased for me by my dad. Our family vacations consisted of camping trips, and in high school I participated in a couple of life-changing, organized Christian backpacking trips with my friends.

Rock climbing has been a blessing in my life as it has introduced me to a variety of great friends including my husband, Brian. We met at a local climbing gym in 2000 and have now been married for almost eight years. Together we have traveled to amazing climbing destinations throughout the country and Canada. My favorite area for bouldering is Bishop, California, and my favorite route climbing area is the Red River Gorge, Kentucky. We only live 2 hours from the RRG, so we often do day trips down there.

A little over 2 years ago, Brian and I sold our house and left our jobs to join two of our closest friends for an extended six month road trip to rock climb and see the country. We were hoping that would get the "traveling bug" out of our systems, but it only left us wanting more freedom. I have been a Registered Dietitian for nine years, but this year decided to attend an accelerated 15 month nursing program to obtain a BSN (Bachelor's of Nursing degree). I am hoping to eventually become a traveling nurse, where I can still be a part of the health care field while having the flexibility to travel and see the world.
